Glasgow
Where Scottish style comes from
With Glasgow once being Europe’s Capital of Culture and labelled as an official British city of architectural excellence, it is understandable that many regard it as the heart of Scottish style. With Glasgow deputising for the English capital as ‘the’ place to shop, the sky is the limit for the most populated city in Scotland. Aside from the warm and bubbly conversation you can expect from locals, tourists are also drawn to the cultural variety which can be seen in the country as a whole.
Glasgow Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC)
Both the traditional and modern parts of Glasgow entwine beautifully. If you fancy a whisky or two, the world-renowned Tron Bar can be a good choice, which is conjoined with the playhouse of the same name. While you are there, you can celebrate the purchases you may have made with one of the oldest marketplaces in the country, known as ‘The Barras’. The views of the city can be breathtaking from The Lighthouse too, an adaptation of a classic Mackintosh structure into a museum that celebrates architectural design. Selecting gifts for your loved ones from the museum’s shop can allow you to buy something quirky and memorable.

Glasgow loves fashion, and many of the locals love to keep up with the latest trends. Immersing yourself with their passion can allow you to enjoy retail therapy in the bespoke and modest shops across the town. This can also be combined with a love for timeless artefacts, with many searches to be made along the Victorian backstreets of the West End.

If you love culture, this city is like no other. With many investments being made into key structures such as the Kelvingrove Museum, there is no reason why you can’t explore the worlds of fine art, history and nature all at once, without spending a penny. You can also visit the Citizen’s Theatre, another culture hotspot which has been delighting visitors since the 1940s. Having 19 free international-standard museums really puts you at a dilemma as to which one you should choose.
